Capturing Maternity Memories at Strathcona Science Park: A Windy Day in Edmonton

April in Edmonton often surprises us with unpredictable weather, where instead of the expected spring rain, we encounter snow and strong winds. This was the case when Mina and Yap scheduled their maternity photo session for the first Friday of April. Fortunately, a last-minute decision to reschedule turned out to be a blessing. While Friday was marked by snowfall, by Monday, the snow had melted, and we were greeted by clearer skies—though the winds were still in full force.

At Strathcona Science Park, one of Edmonton's scenic locations, we began the session. Mina had selected a couple of beautiful outfits from my client closet, including the lovely pink outfits featured in the photos. Despite the chilly weather, she was a true professional, kicking off her heavy winter boots and posing barefoot on the Strathcona Science Park Pedestrian Bridge. The wind added an element of drama, blowing through her hair and creating a sense of movement in the photos—a style I absolutely love capturing.

Strathcona Science Park offers a variety of picturesque spots, and it has become one of my favourite locations for photography in Edmonton. One particularly charming area is the long grass field on the side of a hill, which was the perfect setting to add more dynamic shots to Mina's gallery. I suggested Mina hold Yap's hand and lead him along the path, capturing the natural, loving connection between them. One of my favourite images from the session is of Yap smiling tenderly at Mina as she cradles her belly and looks back at him—a beautiful moment that truly reflects the deep bond they share and the excitement for their little one on the way.

As the session neared its end, we moved to the top of a hill to capture a breathtaking view of Edmonton's downtown skyline, framed by the setting sun. The golden light created a warm and ethereal atmosphere, perfectly complementing the joy and anticipation of Mina and Yap's upcoming arrival. Yap joined Mina for a few final shots, bringing a heartfelt conclusion to our maternity session.

Despite the chilly weather and the absence of blooming flowers, we were able to create a stunning collection of maternity photos that I know Mina and Yap will cherish for years to come. This session at Strathcona Science Park is a testament to the beauty of capturing moments in any weather, showcasing the resilience and love of this wonderful couple.
