Frequently asked questions

for family portraits.

When should I contact you to book my family session?

I recommend contacting me a few weeks ahead of when you’d like to book a family session, especially during peak seasons when demand is higher, and my schedule tends to fill up quickly. However, don't hesitate to reach out, even if you hope to book your session sooner. Occasionally, I can accommodate last-minute requests and would love to capture your family's moments whenever possible.

What time of day do you shoot?

I prefer shooting outdoors during the evening, about an hour before sunset when the sun is at its optimal position in the sky. However, this may not always be feasible, especially for families with younger children or during specific times of the year. In instances when shooting during the day is necessary and the sun is not in the ideal position, we will choose a location with ample shade and covering for the session. The specific location will be discussed and decided upon during the booking process.

What happens if it is calling for rain

Being an outdoor person I am not scared of a little bit of rain, wind or even the cold. I’ve captured portraits in all different types of weather and some of my favourite photos were taken during these conditions. However, if it’s calling for rain during our session and you’d prefer to stay dry, we will determine 12-24 hours before the shoot if rescheduling would be ideal.

What if I do not have a location in mind for the session?

Don’t worry! During the booking process, I will ask if you have a location or type of location you want to shoot at. Most clients do not have a location and do rely on me to find the best-suited area for the shoot.

do you charge extra for larger families?

I understand the added expenses of having a larger family and I want to make your photography experience stress-free. Hence, there's no additional fee for larger families or extra individuals during the session, ensuring you can capture precious moments without worrying about extra costs.

what should we wear for our session?

Let's begin with what not to wear. Avoid dressing the family uniformly in a single colour, and stay clear of the cliché jeans-and-white-tee combination. Skip large labels, cartoon characters, and busy patterns, as these can divert attention from the real focus – you and your family. Instead, opt for colours within the same palette, incorporate layers and textures, and choose clothing that ensures everyone feels confident and comfortable. If you're uncertain about your wardrobe choices, feel free to reach out—I'm always here to assist in selecting the perfect pieces and offer professional advice. Clients are also welcome to select pieces from my client closet. View my Client Closet Here

Can we do a studio session instead of a location shoot?

Most definitely! Studio sessions are also a great way to capture stunning images of your family. During a studio session, the lighting is adjusted to give several different looks during our shoot and to give you options when selecting your images.

How do I book a session with you?

I love making things easy for my clients and have created a smooth process for booking with me. To book you can either send me an email request or simply go to my booking site and request a date. From there a questionnaire is sent for me to get to know you a little better before the session and an invoice is created. All payments can be made securely online or by EMT.

can our fur baby join in during the shoot?

Absolutely! Your furry friends are welcome to participate in our outdoor sessions, provided the location allows pets. If you're bringing your fur baby, remember to bring a leash and some treats to ensure a smooth and enjoyable session for everyone involved. For studio shoots please contact me beforehand to determine if they can join us.

Should I have my hair and makeup done for the session?

While not mandatory, booking a professional hair and makeup artist can enhance the quality of your photoshoot. They are trained to create camera-friendly looks that complement your features. Ultimately, the decision depends on your preferences and comfort level when doing your hair and makeup. The goal is for you to feel confident and enjoy the experience, whether you choose professional assistance or opt for DIY.

how long will it take to receive our photos?

Being a photographer for more than 10 years I have nailed down how to achieve a quick turnaround time for my clients. After our session, you will receive a proofing gallery 48-72 hours after our shoot. Once you have selected your images clients will receive their final select images with full edits within a week after selection. The average time a client receives their final images is typically 1.5-2 weeks after our session.
