The Adventure of Moving

Moving can be quite the adventure, especially when it involves packing up everything you own into containers and having it shipped across Canada. I’ve only moved a handful of times throughout my life, always starting fresh in a new space. My earlier moves involved starting out in small apartments with my two older boys when they were toddlers. Eventually, I settled into my childhood home, a place that holds a special significance. It was the same home where all five of my children came home from the hospital, and it was a place that symbolized stability and love for our family.

A New Beginning in Alberta

For many years, my husband and I joked about relocating to be closer to my best friend, who had moved to Peace River, Alberta. I had visited her several times and was struck by how Alberta’s charm reminded me of our little hometown as we knew it growing up. It wasn’t long before our playful musings about moving turned into a serious consideration, and we decided to make Alberta our new home. This move was not only a change of scenery but also an opportunity to breathe new life into my business.

Restarting My Photography Business

As a dedicated Edmonton family photographer, the move meant that I would need to restart almost from scratch after nearly a decade in business. I had to think about expanding my reach into the Edmonton area and revamping my online presence, including my website and social media accounts. When you’ve been established in one place for so long, adapting to a new market requires a fresh approach. Rethinking keywords, hashtags, and strategies for my website became an essential task in ensuring that my photography business would thrive in this new city.

Adapting to New Challenges

A few months before our move, all my props and studio equipment were packed into a large shipping container and sent across the country. During that period, I relied solely on my camera and a few lenses for outdoor photography shoots and sessions in client homes. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, as it forced me to adapt and find creative solutions with limited resources.

Setting Up the New Studio

The day I finally unpacked and set up my new Edmonton photography studio was incredibly refreshing. Arranging the studio space to fit my vision was both exciting and fulfilling. With everything in place, I was eager to dive back into the work that I’ve cherished for so many years. It was a new beginning in a new city, and I was thrilled to start this chapter of my career.

A Heartwarming First Session

It was particularly fitting that my first client in this newly set-up studio was Marie, who booked a newborn photoshoot for her baby girl. Marie had also recently moved and was navigating the challenges of starting fresh in a new location while welcoming her first child. During our session, we bonded over our shared experiences of relocating across provinces. We discussed the obstacles we faced and the reasons behind our decisions to move. Our conversation added a personal touch to the session, making it not just a professional appointment but a meaningful exchange.

Looking Forward to the Future

As an Edmonton family photographer, meeting Marie and capturing the precious moments of her newborn’s early days was a heartwarming start to my new journey. It was clear that moving to Edmonton and establishing my new photography studio was the right choice. The session was filled with joy and connection, setting a positive tone for the future of my business in this vibrant city.

Embracing New Opportunities

Looking back, the move to Edmonton has been an exciting and transformative experience. The process of setting up my new studio, connecting with clients like Marie, and embracing the challenges of starting anew has reinforced my passion for photography and my commitment to serving families in this new community. I’m grateful for the support and opportunities that have come my way, and I look forward to continuing to capture beautiful moments for families across Edmonton.
